The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has extended the deadline for current and future students to apply for over $400,000 of scholarship funding available for the 2023-24 academic year to March 31, 2023. The online scholarship application can be found at www.monroeccc.edu/scholarships. By completing the single application students will potentially and automatically be considered for dozens of scholarships.
"Over 200 different scholarships are available in varying amounts from $250 to scholarships that cover all tuition and fees for two years at MCCC," said Dr. Joshua W. Myers, executive director of The Foundation at MCCC. "Not all scholarships are need-based or require a high-grade point averages or full-time status. Many are program specific and offered in traditional and technical career training programs."
"Many federal or state-funded grant programs do not allow students to use their awards on things like lab fees, books or other supplies and equipment that some programs require. This is where a privately funded scholarships like those The Foundation and its donors can provide can make a big difference in a student's final cost of education," explained Myers.
All a student needs to apply for scholarships is their student email and seven-digit student identification number, which they will be assigned after completing the free MCCC Application for Admission (www.monroeccc.edu using the “Apply” tab on the homepage).
Students can complete their scholarship application in as little as 20 minutes but are encouraged to take their time to ensure a complete, compelling and accurate submission. The college also offers some suggestions for students preparing to apply for scholarships.
- Write responses to the short essay questions in Microsoft Word prior to filling out the application form so clean, edited versions of the essay can be ‘cut and paste’ into the digital application.
- There are three short essay questions, one that is required and two others that are highly recommended for completion:
- highlighting educational and career goals.
- Essay listing and describing school and community service activities.
- Essay describing any financial hardships, events or circumstances that have been overcome or are currently being faced.
- Thoroughly completing the application before submitting it is important as each question may qualify the student for additional scholarships. The application process does allow for saving drafts prior to final submission.
Students are also encouraged to complete the FAFSA (at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) as soon as they can, along with applying for CCC. scholarships from MCCC.
