THE FOUNDATION AT MCCC AWARDS THE ROY AND BOBBIE TURNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Roy and Bobbie Turner Memorial Scholarship to Erick Calkins. The $1,200 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.

calkins photoCalkins, of Carleton, is a 2021 Airport High School graduate. He is studying criminal justice – law enforcement at MCCC and previously participated in the MCCC Youth Academy as a student and squad leader. He serves as a volunteer firefighter with the Exeter Township volunteer Fire Department, having received both Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications and HAZMAT training certification. Erick was recently hired by the Monroe Police Department and will also be attending the police academy. He is the son of Richard Calkins and Susan Calkins.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Monroe County, MI, resident and a Monroe County firefighter or the child or grandchild of a local (Monroe County) firefighter. Additionally, the student must have a minimum of 2.5 grade point average and must maintain full-time enrollment status of at least 12 credit hours per semester.
