Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to participate in Monroe County Community College's Culture and Current Affairs Series in March. All of the events are free and all are open to the public.

On Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m., Carlos Rivera, community education coordinator with Families Against Narcotics, will present "Substance Use Disorder and Stigma Reduction" via Zoom Rivera has a decade of experience working in substance use treatment and prevention in a variety of settings and capacities. He has a passion for helping people struggling with SUD and understands the importance of prevention education to stop the problem before it starts. On Monday, March 18 20 at 3:00 p.m., Madison Goulet, health educator with the Monroe County Health Department, will present "Empower Your Body, Energize Your Mind" via Zoom. Goulet Maddy’s academic background includes earning both her undergraduate degree in public health education and master of public health degree at Central Michigan University. Her passion lies in working collaboratively with others, educating individuals to enhance their health and wellness and working with youth and advocating to ensure their voices are heard. On Tuesday, March 26, Freyja Harris, at 3 p.m. executive director of Coalition for Home Repair, will present "Preserving Safe, Healthy, Affordable Housing" via Zoom. Harris brings more than 20 years of experience in housing, grant making, policy, and community development to the Coalition for Home Repair. , and will play a key role in leading the Coalition, executing programs, fundraising, and advocacy work. She has supported organizations with contract development, human resources, regulatory compliance, and culture change through the integration of policies and procedures that promote greater diversity, equity, inclusion and justice as a consultant and in various roles with Florida Coalition for the Homeless, Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation, Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Harris is a lawyer and a long-time volunteer and advocate for housing policies.
