Growing up and doing artwork of various types as a child and teen, Durwood Coffey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps right after high school, where he served as a “Combat Artist”. After completing his tour of duty and discharge from the USMC, he attended college where he majored in fine art and illustration.
Coffey learned the art of illustration and practiced his visual skill for over 30 years in the corporate world. His clients included some of the nation's largest corporations including Detroit Edison, Anheuser-Busch, General Motors, SeaWorld, Capital Cities and Marvel Comics to name only a few. It was in this commercial visual training ground where projects ranging from spot illustration in periodicals to the creation of a major series of paintings for corporate boardrooms were made.
After three decades as an illustrator in the corporate world, Coffey felt it was important to get back to painting the subjects that he had always enjoyed painting the most. “The World of the Animal Kingdom” soon came to life on canvas and paper with the freedom to explore the vast variety of wildlife subjects that exist in the world and share them through his very personal artistic expression. Coffey is represented by Art Licensing and his art is shown and sold worldwide.
