MCCC OFFERING FREE, 8-WEEK SUMMER 'HUSKY HYPE-UP' PROGRAM TO HELP STUDENTS PREPARE FOR COLLEGE

Monroe County Community College is offering a free, 8-week summer program to help students prepare for college.

The program, Bridges to College – Husky Hype-Up, is open to new or current MCCC students who place into developmental courses, according to Amanda Althouse, director of student success.

Seats are limited, and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bridges to College - Husky Hype-Up is focused on student learning by supporting reading, writing and math skill development using a hybrid model of instruction that includes online and in-person learning, as well as activities to get students ready to become an MCCC Husky and help them build a sense of belonging at the college. 

The kickoff for the program will be June 12 from 5-7 p.m. in Student Success Center located in Founders Hall on the college's Main Campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe. Participants will receive ID’s, laptops, dinner and more program information. 

Sessions are planned for June 16 through August 7. They will be held in person on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the Main Campus and in a hybrid format Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be no sessions July 3.

In addition to improving their academic skills in core areas, Althouse said, students will work with our college educational advocates to prepare for their higher education experience in the fall. They will meet with advisors, learn about financial aid opportunities and gain career readiness skills.

MCCC will provide students with all of the learning materials and supplies, including a free laptop and Wi-Fi hotspot access while they are in the program. meals on each in-person day, student engagement activities, resource information, college navigation and access to the college’s Heck’s Market food pantry. Assistance with transportation will be available.

To enroll, students should fill out the Bridges to College – Husky Hype-Up Interest Form at monroeccc.edu/husky-hype-up. A program coordinator or manager will then contact the student to provide more information.
