MCCC OFFERING NEW 'HUMAN BODY' COURSE AT BEFORD LOCATION; Course is Prerequisite for Paramedic Programs Slated to Start at Whitman Center Fall 2026

MONROE and TEMPERANCE, Mich. – Beginning Winter 2026, Monroe County Community College will offer a new course titled "The Human Body in Health and Disease" (HLTSC-170), a health science course that is a prerequisite for MCCC's anticipated new paramedic degree and certificate programs slated to start in Fall 2026 at its Bedford location, the Whitman Center.

According to Shawn McBride, director of emergency medical services programs at MCCC, the class is designed to provide relevant background knowledge for paramedic students, as required by the state.

"By offering the class in the Winter semester, students interested in starting the paramedic [degree or certificate] programs in fall can get ahead," Helen Stripling, dean of the Health Sciences division.

She added that the Human Body course serves as an excellent introduction to basic human anatomy and disease processes.

"The course can benefit anyone interested in a health science field," she said. "Similar to medical terminology or first aid courses, this class provides initial understanding of topics that will be addressed in much greater detail in specific health science programs."

Additional announcements regarding the anticipated paramedic degree and certificate programs will be announced soon. For more information on the new course or other emergency medical services programs, please contact McBride at (734) 457-6057 or smcbride@monroeccc.edu.
