MONROE, Mich. – In mid-January, Monroe County Community College will launch a new Emergency Medical Services Instructor/Coordinator Course at the college’s Bedford Township location, the Whitman Center.
MCCC-Bedford at the Whitman Center is located at 7777 Lewis Ave. in Temperance.
An EMS instructor/coordinator modifies, delivers, evaluates and coordinates curricular elements of EMS courses and ensures courses comply with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services requirements, said Shawn McBride, MCCC’s EMS program director.
Those who successfully complete the non-credit course will be eligible to take the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services EMS Instructor/Coordinator exam. Once licensed, graduates may teach both initial and continuing education courses.
To qualify to take the course, students must have three years of experience working as an EMT in Michigan. A letter from the candidate and a letter of reference is also required.
The course begins on January 15 and will run through May 5 in Whitman Center, Room 3. Classes will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Students will be able to attend the instructor-led classes in-person or virtually, but attendance of at least two in-person sessions is required, McBride said. Those two classes are February 17 and either February 26 or March 5.
The course is state-specific and designed to prepare students only to get a Michigan license.
The registration deadline is January 9, and the course is limited to 15 students. The cost is $1,750 for the course, and books are included. A monthly payment plan is available.
