MONROE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ENROLLMENT UP 8%; INCOMING FRESHMAN CLASS UP 19%, DUAL ENROLLMENT UP 21%

Monroe County Community College’s credit enrollment is up by 8 percent over last year, Scott Behrens, vice president for enrollment management and student success, has announced.

This Fall Semester, 2,656 students are attending MCCC, up from 2,464 one year ago.

"Twelve new academic program additions in two years, innovations to current programs, excellent coordination with the high schools we serve, robust prospective student and community engagement efforts like the Momentum Adult Success Program, extensive student success initiatives, improvements to campus facilities -- so many things have contributed to this growth," said Dr. Scott Behrens, vice president for enrollment management and student success. 

The incoming freshman class of students, which Behrens classified as "students enrolling for the first time in any college," rose by 19 percent to 799 students from 672 the previous year.

In addition to the increase in headcount, MCCC also experienced an 8 percent increase in the number of contact hours students are taking.

Students are enrolled in 25,185 contact hours, up from 22,183 last year.

MCCC’s dual enrollment population – students who earn college credit while still in high school – grew from 772 to 935 this fall, an increase of 21 percent. 

The percentage of students enrolling from Monroe County's high schools increased at 8 out of 10 schools. Below are the percentage increases by high school for the Class of 2005:

  • Summerfield High School up 22.2% from 2.8% to 25%
  • Airport High School, up .4% from 11.7% to 12.1%
  • Mason High School, up 7.6% from 9.8% to 17.4%
  • Bedford High School, up 6.1%  from 8.6% to 14.7%
  • Monroe High School up 5.7% from 14.6% to 20.3%
  • Ida High School, up 3% from 16.2% to 20%
  • Whiteford High School, up 2%, from 8.3% to 8.5%
  • Jefferson High School, up .02% from 17.39% to 17.43%

Dundee High School decreased by 8.7% from 22.2% to 13.5%. St,. Mary Central catholic decreased by .7 percent from 16.5% to15.8%.
