THE FOUNDATION AT MCCC AWARDS THE C. ERNEST READ SCHOLARSHIP

The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the C. Ernest Read Scholarship to Colton Cowen. The $1,350 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.

Cowen, of Monroe, is a 2024 graduate of Monroe High School. Colton is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of the MCCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; the MCCC Honors Program for which his research project was featured in the college’s annual Jim DeVries Student Symposium; and he plans to join the MCCC Student Nurse Association and become involved in the group’s various community service projects. He is the son of Natalie Johnson and Scott Cowen.

This scholarship was established by the estate of C. Ernest Read, one of the founders of MCCC.  Read was actively involved in the early stages of planning the MCCC campus and served on the committee that created the initial guidelines for its development.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above, have earned 24 credit hours and be active in a recognized college organization.
