THE FOUNDATION AT MCCC AWARDS THE ETHEL K. (RUSSEAU) FOUNTAIN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded 11 scholarships from the Ethel K. (Russeau) Fountain Endowed Scholarship. Each $2,000 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books. Recipients for the 2025 – 26 academic year are:  

Ethan Church, of Newport, is a 2010 graduate of Airport High School. He is studying mechanical engineering technology at MCCC and transferring to the University of Toledo to enhance his career from a structural designer to structural engineering. He is the son of Ruth Church and Michael Church,  husband to Hailey Church and the father of four children. 

Donovan Lutz, of Ida, is a 2024 graduate of Ida High School.  He is studying mechanical engineering technology at MCCC.  He was two-time state qualifier for track while a student at IHS and now is a volunteer track coach for the team. He is also a participant in 5K fundraising runs, including the Dylan Lewis Foundation 5K run.  He is the son of Douglas and Jennifer Lutz. 

Jolene Stininger, of Monroe, earned her GED in 1999 from Mason/Monroe Alternative High School. After a career in the service industry, she is now studying in MCCC’s CNC (computer numerical control) program.  She is the daughter of Catherine Whithouse and Jimmy Gee and the mother of Jenna Slater.

Zackery Parks, of Bedford, is a 2023 graduate of Garden city High School.  He is studying in the mechanical design technology program at MCCC.  In high school, Zackery participated in the school’s Air Force ROTC, theater, track and wrestling programs and through LinkCrew, he was a mentor for incoming freshmen. He also participated in and was and award winner participating in MITES (Michigan Industrial & Technology Education) for graphic design. He was a volunteer in a number of community activities including a summer camp, organizing fitness classes and refurbishing the city’s ice rink   He is the son of Michael and Melanie Parks. 

Max Alvarez, of Monroe, is a 2021 graduate of Allen Park High School.  He is studying in the college’s NUET (nuclear engineering technology) program at MCCC.  At APHS, he played football and was a presidential academic award and all-star academic award recipient and volunteered with Link Leader mentor program and Habitat for Humanity. He is the son of Jose and Andrea Alvarez. 

Kyle LaBeau, of Newport, is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School and was a dual-enrolled student at MCCC.  He is working towards his associate degree in the NUET program at MCCC.  While attending JHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, was a tutor in the first construction trades course and other subjects and volunteered with St. Anne’s Food Bank and other community projects.  He is the son of Kevin LaBeau and Susan LaBeau. 

Jace Bezeau, of Monroe, is a 2023 graduate of Monroe County Middle College.  He is working towards his associate degree in medical design technology at MCCC.  While attending MCMC, Jace was the coach and mentor for the local lego robotics team, volunteered as a coach and instructor for younger children at the Monroe Family YMCA.  He is the son of Karen Bezeau and Barry Bezeau.

Benjamin Johnson, of Monroe, is a 2022 graduate of Monroe High School.  He is working towards earning a CAD/CAM technician certificate at MCCC.  While attending MHS, he worked with other students in construction trades classes to construct a house that raised funds for the classes and other smaller construction projects at use in the community and was a cellist for the MHS Orchestra and guitarist for Frenchtown Fiddlers. He has volunteered for Oaks of Righteousness and his church teaching in vacation bible school, assisting at soup kitchens and many other service activities.  He is the son of Brain James Johnson and Melissa June Johnson. 

Nicholas Leicht, of Monroe, is a 2022 graduate of Monroe High School.  He is working towards his associate degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology at MCCC.  He is the son of Michelle and August Leicht. 

Isaac Masserant, of Newport, is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School.  He is studying in the NUET program at MCCC.  While attending JHS, Isaac was a member and captain of the track and field, wrestling and cross country teams. He also was his class treasurer and served on the Student Prevention Leadership Team and student council, both of which are involved in numerous volunteer projects including Special Olympics and Upward Bound. He is the son of Christy and Steven Masserant. 

Christian Coakley, of Temperance, is a 2024 graduate of Bedford High School.  He is studying in the NUET program at MCCC.  While attending BHS, he established the Bedford Esports Team, was a percussionist in the marching band and attained the First Class rank in Boy Scouts and volunteered with God Works! and other organizations in the community.  He is the son of Bridget Coakley and Timothy Coakley. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be pursuing a degree or certificate in any Applied Science and Engineering Technology Division program, be a resident of Monroe County, Michigan, a United States citizen, and demonstrate financial need with preference given to a non-traditional student.
