The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Gwendolyn M. Jacob Memorial Scholarship to Aleigha Hunt. The $1,500 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Hunt, of Petersburg, is a 2023 graduate of Ida High School. She plans to earn an associate of science degree from MCCC in criminal justice and pursuing a bachelor’s degree at University of Toledo. She is currently employed with the Novi Police Department as a police cadet and worked as a pre-trial services monitor in the Monroe County Court System. While at IHS, she played volleyball, receiving awards in recognition of her academic and athletic abilities and she was involved in the Give a Kid a Christmas effort. While at MCCC she has also participated in the MCCC and Michigan State Police Law Enforcement Academy. Aleigha is the daughter of Erika and Johnny Hunt.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a veteran or the child of a veteran, the veteran must have received an honorable discharge and submit a copy of their DD-214 to the MCCC Financial Aid Office. The student must also be a resident of Monroe County, MI, and must maintain full-time enrollment status which is twelve (12) billable contact hours or more per semester (during fall and winter semesters). Financial need will be considered in awarding the scholarship.
