The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Sonya Kay Brett Business and Computer Information Systems Endowed Memorial Scholarship to Cooper Charlton and Tyler Kemp. Each $1,950 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees and books.
Charlton, of Temperance, is a 2025 graduate of Bedford High School. He is studying general business at MCCC. While attending BHS, he was the parliamentarian and treasurer of the Business Professionals of America. Cooper is the son of Jeffrey Charlton and Angela Jones.
Kemp, of Carleton, is a 2024 graduate of Trenton High School. He is studying business management at MCCC. He was involved with the SNAP Skating Program giving people with disabilities the opportunity to get out on the ice with hockey players. He is the son of Jeff and Dawn Kemp.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be enrolled in either a business or computer information systems program, have completed 24 credit hours or more and have a grade point average of 2.8 or above. The applicant must be a resident of Monroe County, MI, and a U.S. citizen. Also, the student must maintain full-time student status during the scholarship year, which is defined as 12 credit hours.
