Monroe County Community College has awarded performing music scholarships to Cayeleah Hester, Grace Lietaert, Joshua Riggs, and Maria Zapp.
The scholarship covers tuition, fees or other basic needs and security for the 2026-2027 academic year. Scholarship recipients participate in either the MCCC College/Community Symphony Band, Orchestra or Agora Chorale. Each scholarship is renewable for a second year if the student maintains a high standard of conduct and work. This year’s recipients are:
Hester, of Erie, is a 2026 graduate of Mason High School. She plans to pursue a fine arts degree while attending MCCC. She has played clarinet since the fifth grade, is a part of the Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars and actively volunteers at her high school. Hester is the daughter of Cassandra and David Hester.
Lietaert, of Dundee, is a 2026 graduate of Summerfield High School. She is studying elementary education while attending MCCC. While attending SHS, she was the drum major, was in the student council and theater. She plays trumpet at her church. Lietaert is the daughter of Patrick and Shelly Lietaert.
Riggs, of Monroe, is a 2027 graduate of Monroe High School. Currently dual-enrolled, Riggs is pursuing a degree in construction management technology at MCCC. He was a drum major at his high school’s marching band and volunteered both at his high school and the Knights of Columbus food packaging. Riggs is the son of Chip and Kerri Williams.
Zapp, of Temperance, is a 2009 graduate of Bellbrook High School, located in Bellbrook, OH. She is pursuing a science degree while attending MCCC. Zapp is part of the Monroe County Community Band and volunteers at Bedford High School, assisting with the set design for musicals.
