MONROE, Mich. -- Monroe County Community College’s credit enrollment is up 4.4 percent over last year, Dr. Scott Behrens, vice president for enrollment management and student success, has announced.
This Fall Semester, 2,754 students are attending MCCC, up from 2,638 one year ago.
"Fifteen new academic program additions since 2024, including three new options this year -- a Paramedic Program and Paramedic Certificate that are both offered at the Whitman Center at MCCC-Bedford, as well as a Construction Management Pathway to Apprenticeship Program in conjunction with the Monroe-Lenawee AFL/CIO Skilled Trade Council -- have certainly played a role in rising enrollment for MCCC," Joe Verkennes, director of marketing and communications, said.
Verkennes also cited excellent coordination with area high schools, robust prospective student and community engagement efforts like the Momentum Adult Success Program, extensive student success initiatives and support services, low tuition and free college options via state programs, and improvements to campus facilities made possible by consecutive maintenance and improvement millages from 2016-2025 as reasons for continued enrollment growth.
"While many colleges and universities continue to face declining enrollment, we are experiencing the opposite thanks in large part to our campus-wide commitment to our student-focused mission and the execution of our strategic plan," he said.
In addition to a rise in enrollment, MCCC also experienced a jump in the number of contact hours students are taking.
This Fall Semester students are taking 26,214.50 contact hours compared to 24,990.50 last fall, an increase of 4.9 percent.
