MCCC TO HOST LEGAL STUDIES INFORMATION SESSION MAY 19

MONROE, Mich. -- Monroe County Community College will host a Legal Studies Information Session on Tuesday, May 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building.

MCCC is located at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe. Guests should park in Lot 2.

A reception with light refreshments will take place from 5:30-6 p.m., and the program will begin immediately after.

At the event, prospective students and their guests will be able to explore MCCC’s current Paralegal and Criminal Justice offerings and be introduced to the planned new Legal Studies program, which will prepare students for transfer into pre-law university degree programs.

Guest speakers will include Jeffery Yorkey, Monroe County prosecutor, and attorney Kimberly B. Kuhn, partner at Churchill, Smith, Stang and Kuhn, LLP, who will discuss their experiences working in the field of law in Monroe County.

Yorkey graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1996. He then began his own law practice, specializing in criminal defense and family law for 17 years. In 2014, Yorkey was hired as an assistant prosecutor in Monroe County and worked with cases ranging from speeding tickets to first-degree murders. Yorkey was appointed to his current role as Monroe County prosecutor in May of 2023 and was elected to the position in November of 2024. 

Kuhn graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1995 and has been practicing family law for more than 20 years. After her graduation from law school, Kuhn became a staff attorney for the late Honorable Frederick H. McDonald of the Lucas County (Ohio) Court of Common Pleas General Division. She has experience as a guardian ad litem, a court-appointed advocate for minors or incapacitated adults. Kuhn handles cases in both Ohio and Michigan.
