"So many things have contributed to MCCC's continued growth, such as the introduction of a dozen in-demand associate degrees and short-term certificates over the last few years and the continued strengthening of our existing programs, as well as our small class sizes that allow us to offer more personalized instruction," said Joe Verkennes, director of marketing and communications. "We also a provide comprehensive student success services and resources to support students, whether their plan is to go directly into the workface, transfer to a four-year university partner or just take a few courses to expand their skills.”

Robust community engagement has also played a role, including efforts to reach out to students at area high schools, as well as bring them on campus. Specific efforts to engage and assist adult learners have also been implemented.

"Many adults whose parents never attended college -- students we call first-generation -- can find navigating college to be difficult," he said. "We started our new Momentum Adult Success Program last year, which helps prepare adult students age 21 and up to start their college journey and then gives them the individualized support they need every step of the way as they work toward earning that life-changing certificate or degree."
