MORE THAN 50 EVENTS SCHEDULED IN MARCH FOR ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY; AUTHOR VISIT IS MARCH 25

The One Book, One Community of Monroe County committee has scheduled more than 50 events throughout March -- including an author visit -- for the community to join in the discussion of this year’s book selection, The Art Thief by Michael Finkel.

Monroe County Community College is proud to play a lead role along with the Monroe County Library System and other local organizations in hosting events for One Book, One Community of Monroe County, which was modeled after a program developed by the American Library Association and launched in 2011 as an opportunity to engage and enlighten Monroe County residents, foster a sense of community and create a culture of reading county-wide. Every book means something unique to each reader, and reading is often a solitary act. One Book, One Community of Monroe County brings readers together, creating connections between Monroe County residents and literature.

The Art Thief tells the story of Stéphane Breitwieser, who grew up fascinated by art. As an adult he becomes the most prolific art thief in history, stealing more than $2 billion worth of art. All of his crimes are committed while museums are open, and he is never violent. He doesn’t sell any of the art, but instead hoards it in his attic room. He and his accomplice, girlfriend Anne-Catherine, become more audacious with each theft, until they are finally caught and their treasure trove of art is discovered. But the crimes don’t end there.

The complete list of events can be found at www.monroeccc.edu/one-book-one-community/2026. All are free and open to the public.
