The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Eugene and Helen Beach Nursing/Respiratory Therapy scholarship to Devon Beck, Colton Cowen, Rhianna Kriska, Samantha Ledger, Samantha McCullough and Brianna Meinhold. Each $2,400 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Beck, of Ypsilanti, is a 2002 GED graduate of Washtenaw County Community College. She is studying nursing at MCCC. Beck is a member of the Student Nurses’ Association and the International Association of Forensic Nurses. She is the mother of Zakariyyah, Samirah, Maryam and Summer.
Cowen, of Monroe, is a 2024 graduate of Monroe High School. He is studying nursing at MCCC and is the treasurer of the Student Nurses Association. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Honors Program. Cowen is the son of Natalie Johnson and Scott Cowen.
Kriska, of Gross Ile, is a 2016 Gross Ile High School graduate. She is attending MCCC for nursing. Kriska is the spouse of Ian Kriska and the mother of two sons, Aidan and Austin.
Ledger, of Newport, is a 2023 graduate of Jefferson High School. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is an active member of the Student Nurses Association and the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society Delta Mu Chapter. She volunteers at the Estral Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Ledger is the daughter of Kristine and Mark Ledger.
McCullough, of Monroe, is a 2026 graduate of Monroe High School. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association and holds the title of Blood Program Leader at the American Red Cross. McCullough is the daughter of Shannon and Steve McCullough.
Meinhold, of South Rockwood, is a 2013 graduate of Carlson High School. She is studying nursing at MCCC and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. Meinhold also participates in free vaccine clinics for dogs and cats in Detroit. She is the daughter of Sheila and Tom Bilk, is the spouse of Westin Meinhold and is the mother of two sons, Waylon and Rhett.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a Monroe County resident, a second-year student enrolled in the registered nursing or respiratory therapy program, demonstrate above-average clinical and performance and have a high degree of personal and professional integrity.
