The Foundation at Monroe County Community College has awarded the Gwendolyn M. Jacob Memorial Scholarship to Vinh Nguyen and Samantha Spain. Each $1,550 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books and fees.
Nguyen, of Monroe, is a 2026 graduate of Monroe High School. He is pursuing an accounting degree while attending MCCC. While attending MHS, he was president of the Badminton Club, vice president of the Chess Club and a member of the National Honor Society. He is the son of Lien Tran and the nephew of Hoa Tran.
Spain, of Monroe, is a 2025 graduate of Monroe High School. She is studying electrical engineering technology while attending MCCC. She volunteers working in concessions at sporting games. She is the daughter of Lori Spain.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have graduated from Monroe High School, be enrolled in a transfer curriculum at MCCC, have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and maintain a full-time enrollment status of 12 credit hours.
