“The Vanishing Half” is a story about twin sisters who live in an all-black community in the south in the 1950s.  After both girls run away from home, their lives take very different paths.  Each sister chooses different relationships and jobs and one even chooses a different racial identity.

One sister begins to pass for white and keeps her true identity secret.  While their paths seem to continue to diverge, a chance meeting between their daughters decades later shows that family can always be intertwined.

This book is New York Times Bestseller and a “Good Morning America” book club pick, The screen rights have been purchased by HBO.

The 2021 program will run from March 15 to April 2, and author Brit Bennett will make Zoom presentation for the community on March 25.  More programs and events will be announced and listed on the OBOC of Monroe County website.
