MCCC OFFERING DRONE COURSES THIS FALL

Monroe County Community College is offering area residents the opportunity to learn more about Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), more commonly referred to as drones.

Small UAS, or drones, are a dynamic, emerging technology that is transforming industries and is expected to continue to have a significant impact on our local and national economy for years to come.

The training program being offered by MCCC's Office of Lifelong Learning will take students from learning to fly drones all the way through to preparing for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification. There are three parts to the training. The classes can be taken individually or as a series. Individual classes are $395 each ($276.50 for senior citizens). If students register for the entire series, there is a discount applied. The series cost is $1,185 per person ($863 for senior citizens. Each class also qualifies the student for .8 CEUs.

Part 1 of the series is offered in two formats with students selecting to attend the most appropriate session. Introduction to Drones for Commercial will be held Saturday, October 3. Participants will learn how drones can be used is specific business applications. Introduction to Drones for Public Safety is designed to meet the specific needs of police, firefighters and emergency management personnel. This session will be held Sunday, October 4.

Part 2 of the series, Hands-On Drone Flights Training: Basic Quadcopter Flight Skills, will be held Saturday, October 10. In this part of the series, students will progress through a series of increasingly difficult exercises, culminating in flying through an obstacle course by the end of the day. The cost of the course or series includes a training quadcopter.

Part 3 of the series is Test Prep for Part 107 that will prepare students for the FAA certification test. The remote pilot knowledge test includes 60 questions and requires a 70 percent passing score. This class will be held Sunday, October 11.

All of the class sessions will be held from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. in Room Z-257 in the La-Z-Boy Center on the MCCC's Main Campus, 1555 Raisinville Road in Monroe Township.
