Performing in Toledo for more than 54 years, Collins will bring the Great American Songbook -- the enduring songs that are played and sung over and over by multiple generations -- to life with the Toledo Jazz Orchestra.

According to the Great American Songbook Foundation, these are the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the 20th century. These songs have stood the test of time in their life and legacy and are often referred to as "American Standards." They are popular and enduring tunes published between the 1920s and 1950s that were created for Broadway theater, musical theater and Hollywood musical films.

Since 1979, the Toledo Jazz Orchestra has worked with dozens of industry legends, including Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Clark Terry and Zoot Sims. The group performs the works of the major big bands from the past eight decades along with arrangements commissioned specifically for the orchestra and has two albums to its credit: “Groovin’” and “Out of Nowhere.”

The Toledo Jazz Orchestra's performance at MCCC is part of MCCC's 2023-24 Entertainment and Events Series, which is sponsored by La-Z-Boy, First Merchants Bank, Consumers Energy, DTE Foundation and The Foundation at MCCC. Each academic year, MCCC hosts its Entertainment and Events Series, which consists of a broad range of comedic, musical and theatrical performances, visiting artists and other community events sure to quench the entertainment and cultural thirsts of the region.
